Want the ‘Wow’ factor wedding and wedding pictures with a difference, all at a reasonable price? Wedding and Honeymoon cruises make a fantastic choice.
Get married, renew your vows or celebrate your anniversary at sea on a cruise ship. You can sail off on the honeymoon of your dreams immediately after the wedding ceremony, and you only have to unpack once!
The average traditional English wedding costs £21,000 (according to Mintel), whereas a wedding at sea costs significantly less. The costs of a basic wedding package at sea include the price of the cruise based on 2 adults sharing a cabin (flights included where applicable), the wedding package, wedding license fee, photographs, hand held bridal flowers and one tier wedding cake, though it is worth checking on what is offered by individual cruise lines. Discounts and amenities will be offered on group bookings where the couple want to bring family and friends.
All the benefits of a cruise still apply: fantastic service; top quality food and accommodation, entertainment; use of facilities e.g. pools, gym, and spa. There is very little organising and stress involved in a cruise wedding or vow renewal as a wedding coordinator is provided who will meet you on board to discuss any ‘add-ons’ to your wedding package. This can include a higher tier cake, more flowers, gifts, champagne breakfast in bed, spa treatments, hair appointments, photographer etc., so you can customise your wedding.
For the more adventurous, a shore based ceremony opens the door to a range of alternative locations. Waterfalls, glaciers, vineyards, and even the Jungle are just some of the options available. Whether you choose to marry on-board against the backdrop of the sun setting or at one of the stunning shore based venues, you will receive the highest levels of service, dining and memories that you will cherish. Many itineraries are available including the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Exotic Far East and even Alaska.
Not all cruise lines offer weddings at sea due to legal limitations based on where the cruise ship was registered, I think this makes it more special. The cruise lines that do carry out weddings use a Bermudian marriage licence which is legal all over the world. I advise any couple planning a wedding at sea to book early as it can take a few weeks to process your marriage license for weddings at sea and to make sure that the Captain is available for your special ceremony.
You can choose the cruise line that most appeals to you, so if you are wanting a fun quirky wedding, perhaps with your children you may want to try Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Disney (with Disney Cruise Line you have the option of getting married on their own private island: Castaway Cay). Or if you are wanting something adult only, very special with a larger budget you may want to look at Cunard (after all this is your big day!).
Azamara Cruise Lines are smaller ships and can visit smaller ports, making your day and honeymoon more intimate. Celebrity Cruises have a number of different classes which offer the height of luxury, added facilities, or contemporary mid-size ships, so the choice is yours! Princess Cruises have state-of-the-art technology that allows you to broadcast the ceremony live, via “Web Cam” to friends and family at home, as well as their own private island Princess Cay. Norwegian Cruise Lines have a wedding package for all budgets with special touches like fresh rose arch etc.
P & O cater for mainly British guests and each of their ships target different clientele, some allowing children, some not so great for all types of weddings. Holland and America appeals to ‘foodies’, and a sophisticated clientele and nearly all ships have dedicated chapels as well as their own private island in the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay. Lots of choices to make your wedding special for you both!
