Does that appeal to you? If so, and you’ve never been on such a trip before, today’s handy guide to African safaris is for you! Keep reading and you’ll learn more on how to plan your perfect safari:

What type of safari should you choose?

There are a few different types available. The one you can choose will depend on your budget. Here are the main options that you can select:

  • Luxury Safari. Offered by tour operators, and are perhaps the most expensive of all options. You can expect all-inclusive tours that include all meals and trips. Your accommodation may range from an air-conditioned suite to an upmarket tent;
  • Mobile Safari. A cheaper alternative is the overland or “mobile” safari. In a nutshell, you tour with other visitors and stay at campsites. You will get asked to help out with chores like setting up tents and washing dishes;
  • Self-Drive Safari. Last, but not least, there is the self-drive option. You organize your own itineraries and hire a car to travel across Africa. As you would expect, you’d have to pay for your meals and accommodation costs. I only recommend this option if you’ve been to Africa and on safari a few times in the past.

If you’re opting for the self-drive option, check out the safari guide at http://go.safaridrive.com. It’s also worth reading other people’s experiences online. You can find them in travel forums and websites like TripAdvisor, for example.

Choosing where to go

Africa is a vast continent, so you’ll need to think of the destinations you wish to visit on your honeymoon.

The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is a popular place to see many different animals. Tanzania boasts beautiful sites like Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll also have the opportunity to see plenty of lions in the country! Take a look at the lonelyplanet.com guide to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park for more details.

Botswana at the southern end of Africa attracts those that prefer more luxurious excursions. It’s also worth mentioning that South Africa is popular with tourists. It’s an ideal country if you wish to keep your costs down.

When to visit

Although you can go at any time, there are certain months where you’ll have a better experience. Consider going for an African safari honeymoon during the continent’s dry season. Given that Africa is in the southern hemisphere, this is between December and March.

Be sure to arrange your travel plans in advance. And make sure you get the necessary vaccinations at least two months before you travel.

Good luck!
